As a service provider, you want to give your clients quality and value. When you do that, you begin to develop a loyal clientelle. Your supplier of esthetician supplies wants the same thing.
Knowing where to begin may at first seem like a Herculean task. With so many suppliers and so many supplies available from which to choose, it may be hard to know where to begin. So, begin at the beginning. To know what you need to buy, know what it is you are selling. Know what, if any, guidelines your state has established. And know what services you will provide to your clients.
Before we shop, we make a list. Whether we are buying groceries every week or Christmas presents once a year, lists get us organized and keep us focused. Write down the services your clients use. Under each service, write the items you will need to provide those services. This may take a couple of tries as you think of something from several lists ago and have to go add it. When you see things showing up again and again you will know these are important items and you will probably want a few extra lying around. It would not do to run out of clean towels on Saturday morning before prom night. Take your time and think it through. Keep the lists on separate sheets so they do not seem overwhelming and work through them. As you think of items, add them.
With list in hand, fire up the computer. Thanks to the internet, we can virtually shop with virtually any supplier. And more importantly, comparing just got easier. We can see specific items, shipping times and cost, and know their terms of service and customer policies all while sipping our coffee or tea. There is no waiting on the sales rep to show up, there is no pressure to buy twice the amount we need because there is such a great sale, and there are no more frantic searches for the item number in the catalog. A few quick searches, some comparison between your favorites and you are on your way. Bookmark the sites you like best and put yourself on a couple of mailing lists so you will always know ahead of time when there is a sale on the horizon.
Because customers put a lot of trust in their esthetician, it is important that you have a reliable, reputable supplier. Deliveries must be made on time and complete. Accounts and credit terms must be understandable and unwavering. And just as your clients expect good customer service, you should expect it from your supplier. A quick check with the Better Business Bureau can save some heartache. Asking around never hurts either. Whom does everyone else use? Whom do they not use? And why?
You want to create the best business you can for your clients. And as a client, you want the best service from your business partners. Just like you want your customers to keep choosing you over your competitors, so does your supplier. And if he does not, then there is always the option for you to move on. But before you go, just ask. Do you need faster shipping at the same rate? Do you buy in bulk and want a discount? Can you get credit for referrals? Ask them. They cannot take your recess; all they can do is say no. And more importantly, they may say yes.
Find a supplier who gives you the same level of service and support you give your clients. Purchasing your esthetician supplies does not have to be that thing you dread every week or month. Build a relationship, learn names and make sure they know yours. Keep a list handy of what you need, ask if you wonder, and make sure you are comfortable with the service you are receiving. The right supplier will treat you with the same care and concern and personal attention that you give your customers. And that is how it should be.
