Website design can be a complicated endeavor. Creating just the right type of blend is mind boggling and people should be most aware of what they are trying to accomplish with the site. Whether they are selling, buying, promoting or just blogging the colours that are chosen can send the right or the wrong messages. Color psychology is a major field and has had plenty of time to be studied. What different colour themes represent in website designing is paramount in this process.

There are four different schemes in the way most people use blending and those should be considered first. People should experiment with what seems most appealing to them and how it plays on their sites. Customer feedback should be important as well.

Monochromatic is using the same color in different shades. Analogous means using colours that are different but close to each other on the colour wheel such as red and pink. Complementary refers to using totally opposite colors such as red and blue, while triadic means using three different colours that are evenly spaced on the wheel.

Aside from scheming, the choice of colours is important as well. What different tints mean and represent to a person's psyche can be very powerful. Different cultures have their own traditions of these meanings and those meanings have changed over the years.

Signifying power and authority, black is very popular in certain circles. For instance, black is loved in the fashion community because it makes people appear slimmer. Black has been known to represent evil and submission as well. Villains, such as Dracula and mysterious "masked" men, often wear black.

Pure and innocent, white is wholesome and dazzling because of the way it reflects light. White should be used wisely in web design however as too much of the colour can seem to represent boring sites.

Red grabs the attention almost immediately and, like yellow, is known as a "buying" color. Red can make people breathe harder and quicken the heart rate. It is powerful and during times of confrontation and negotiating it can heighten the experience as well as with the feelings of love and sensual passion.

Blue is the opposite of red and has completely different connotation. Blue can calm and relax the feelings and mind. It is also among the most popular choices when people are asked what their "favorite" color is.

The oceans and forests are green and appropriately this colour represents nature. While relaxing like blue, green can also raise awareness and feelings like red.

Yellow, the other "buying" color is easiest discerned by the human eye. Yellow can dominate a person's attention and for this reason care should be used when it is applied because it can quickly be "too much".

Purple: It emits feelings of luxuriousness, wealth and intelligence. It can be gentle like a plum or stinging like wine.

How these shades are used are important in the content of a website and what it is aimed to do. Whether selling, buying, promoting or information based, how and what different colour themes represent in website designing will effect it greatly.
