Caravanning has always been a favourite for certain types of people, mainly those who are retired and can just go off whenever they are in the mood, but for those in the age group of 30's - 50's caravanning is not really heard of too much, it so it would seem.
Caravanning was fashionable around 30 years ago, but today's generation are now more familiar with going abroad and staying in hotels.
It is nice of course to go abroad and be around a different culture when you go on holiday, but we do seem to have a habit of still going to areas that are holiday destinations even for those who are native to the countries we visit. It wouldn't be the first time I said to myself when in a different country 'well, it's the same sky, just different people'.
I wonder how many of us know what our own country has to offer for a holiday destination. We are one of the fortunate countries that have a lot of history that can be explored but we are so used to jumping on a plane and travelling abroad that we haven't really given much consideration to what our own country has to offer.
We are still feeling the negative effects of the credit crunch, but if I was to try and ply something positive from it, it would be that it has forced us to draw in the reigns when it comes to our finances. One of the effects of that is we are looking around to see what alternatives there are for family holidays.
I remember as a child we always used to go on Caravanning holidays and we used to have so much fun because it meant we could travel around to different destinations. I'm sure our parents were happy too because it didn't have to cost a fortune since there were no hotel rooms to pay for or flights, expensive meals since the caravans came with pretty much everything we needed.
If we look at caravans today, they are so much more modernised which means they can offer even more when it comes to creature comforts. You can take the TV, Video games, Hairdryers etc. Yes, most people say 'but we go on holiday to get away from all that', but they soon wish they had something like that when you want to sit and read a book and the kids say 'I'm bored' and it's up to you to find something to occupy them so you can relax for an hour.
If you consider how much it would cost to take the family on a holiday abroad for the next few years and then compare that to what it costs to buy a caravan as a long term investment, the caravan starts to look appealing. Caravans come in all different shapes and sizes as well as prices, so they do not have to break the bank pricewise, but can prove to be an affordable investment.
Just taking a quick look around the web will give you a great idea of how much caravans cost nowadays, and if a new caravan proves to be too expensive, there are some great deals on second-hand caravans that may more suit your budget.
Whatever you decide, caravan holidays are fast becoming more fashionable since people are having to tighten the purse strings. So if you are unsure what to do this summer, look into a caravan holiday as an affordable alternative.
