None of us are immune to the difficulties that life presents to us. Whether it is huge like the tragedies we have seen lately, or it is personal like a job loss, threat of foreclosure, divorce, or the loss of a loved one. We all go through hard times.
I have found 3 things that help me go through hard times. They are not really profound, or some super secret, but instead time honored truths that have helped great people all throughout history. You know sometimes it is better to look to see what has worked for others, especially people you admire and respect, than search for some new fangled idea that has no history behind it.
What did our founding fathers do when they were faced with insurmountable odds? What did great people in the scriptures do when things as floods and plagues hit them? What did our parent's and grandparent's do during the great depression or World War 2?
These are the questions I asked myself and have found were extremely valuable to me as I went through a 2 year period of joblessness, when I went through a tragic divorce, and the loss of my father. These are the things that everyday people go through and need help with as they walk through their difficult times.
1.) The first thing I learned when going through hard times is that I had to admit that the problem and the trial was bigger than me. That I could not do it all by myself. I needed help. In our society of rugged individualism, admitting that we are weak and not able to overcome something alone is not common nor is it easy. Yet if you think about it. Our founding fathers admitted they needed something larger than themselves in their struggle for freedom. They called upon God to be their help. They looked to Him for the answer.
2.) I learned that if I was going to get through my diffucult times, I had to take responsibility for the part of the problem that was my fault. I could not play the blame game. Now some things this does not apply to. You cannot control the weather or the shifting of the plates of the earth that cause earthquakes, but you can take responsibility for your part in a divorce, or living beyond your means financially ect. If you are going to overcome, you have to change the parts of you that caused or influenced the tragedy.
3.) You must find inspiration for your soul. You have to build up your inner man so that it has faith to go on. If you hang around negativity all the time it will drain you of any motivation you have to walk further. It is easy to stop, to quit, to just sit and do nothing. You have to find things that motivate and inspire you. You need to find a source that gives you a vision for a brighter tomorrow. One of my favorite sources is the bible. It has a verse in it that says "I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for good and not destruction, of a hope and a future." Now if you ask me, that is pretty inspiring!
Recently I have written 3 articles on my blog that are designed to give a person inspiration as they are going through their tough times. You can find them at Taber's Truths. I did this, not so I can make money, or get any personal gain out of it, but just because I want to help people going through difficult times. I hope you will take the time to come and read them and start to find your inspiration during difficutl times.
I am praying for you, even though I have not met your personally yet.
