If you've got a family vacation package but still wary of added costs, you may be afraid to pay for the Wild Africa Trek. Don't be afraid, however. Though initially the tour seems like little more than a stroll through Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, it is in truth, an one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes, walk that immerses you inside the rich and beautiful lands of the park.
As you meet your guides prior to park hours, you'll be properly prepped for the trip, almost like a real jungle safari. You'll stow your things - literally anything that cannot be attached to your person - in lockers, and then be strapped into your harness. Don't worry if you can't find a place for your camera. Luckily, a free of charge Photo Pass CD of pictures taken by the guides while you have the tour is included, so your encounter will be nicely recorded.
You'll see Nile Crocodiles, Gorillas, Hippos, and many additional animals while you wander the Animal Kingdom's jungle area during the tour's first half. Even better than viewing these creatures from the normal viewing areas, like you would in the park, is getting to view them from the specific "backstage areas" explored during the tour - the Hippos and Crocs from rope bridges suspended above the animals' habitats. Don't worry about the height simply because in this case, it's absolutely better to look down! The animals look great from your point of view on the bridge!
Do heights terrify you? Don't worry, that is what the harnesses are for. They bridges are sturdy, even though they do appear precarious and worn-out. That's just part of the design, plus the tour guides will help you over safely. Watching other guests wobble their way across the bridges is almost as entertaining as watching the wildlife.
After your tour group has made their way through the jungle area, which, incidentally, is enough tough hiking for most people, they get a bit of a break in the Savannah area, switching from traveling by walking to riding in Safari trucks. With frequent stops, and binoculars supplied, you won't overlook a single beautiful animal, no matter how reclusive it might be!
By this time, you and your party will be getting a bit, or probably a lot, peckish. Ending the excursion with a delicious treat at Disney's Boma: Flavors of Africa Restaurant is, indeed, an excellent touch. The restaurant is a superb place to decompress from the morning's experience, thanks to its lovely views of the Savannah and African-style cuisine.
After this tasty break, your tour group will pile back into the Safari vehicles, and return to the place where the expedition began, having enjoyed a distinctive as well as unforgettable 3-hour journey of Africa. The excursion wraps up with one final group photograph, and you will be provided your photo CD code. Not only that, you'll also depart with a headful of memories and no regrets at all!
