This will more than likely give you the biggest discount because you can find a website that has a better contract with that hotel to be able to save. Make sure you don't just look at the total from the beginning because while it may look cheap the website might charge crazy fees at checkout which brings the price up.
Daily deal websites have become the craze recently and they are now invading the travel space. You can get a free membership for these websites and then search through the deals they have available. The deals are usually pretty good with 30% off to 75% off select locations. The disadvantage here is the terms are usually pretty limited including what dates you have to visit and what you get included. The hotels and resorts use this to unload inventory and the daily deal sites take a small cut. Some of the more popular daily deal sites for travel include JetSetter, LivingSocial Escapes, Groupon Getaways, SniqueAway, and so on. There are plenty of these websites around just make sure they're legit first before purchasing.
Coupons are an easy way to be able to save on your travel. Once you've compared prices then also look for a coupon or promo code available. Many times these codes for travel websites will get you an extra 5% off or at least get your some type of free upgrade or gift along with your purchase. The sites are all different with some not offering any type of code at all while others have dozens of codes available.
So as you can see there are plenty of ways to save money on your travel by booking it online and I'm sure that I'm missing a few ways. The fact that travel is now more open where you can see the prices and compare it to other companies is great for consumers. This doesn't always mean you will be able to find a great discount, especially if the resort is popular, but you should be able to find a few deals for places in the area you want to visit.
