The Nokia 3600-Slide is the low end version of the popular Nokia 6600-Slide with many of the same design elements. However, because this is the lower end variety, the Nokia 3600-Slide is missing several of the key features which make the 6600-Slide such a popular device. Nevertheless, if you are planning to just use your phone to talk and not to do any data transfers over the Internet, then the Nokia 3600-Slide is a great choice.
Announced in April 2008, the Nokia 3600-Slide is a quad band GSM device. This means that you can use the phone anywhere in the United States or the rest of the world simply by switching out the SIM card with a local provider's SIM card when you arrive at your destination. Unfortunately, one of the features which the Nokia 3600-Slide lacks is high speed data transfer via 3G. Instead, the Nokia 3600-Slide can only access the much slower GPRS/EDGE network for low speed data transfers.
Measuring in at approximately four inches by two inches by one half of an inch, the Nokia 3600-Slide is a rather small phone. It weighs approximately 97 grams, making it a small and light device.
Battery life on the Nokia 3600-Slide is neither good nor bad. Expect to get approximately five and a half hours of talk time or 280 hours of standby time on a single charge.
The main display is of very high quality. It measures two inches in size and features a screen resolution of 240 by 320 pixels and a color depth of 16 million colors.
Also built into the phone is a high quality 3.2 megapixel digital camera. It includes video recording capabilities, a flash, autofocus, and eight times digital zoom.
Multimedia features are well represented on the Nokia 3600-Slide. Several video formats are supported as well as all of the most popular audio formats. In addition, the built in 30 MB of memory can be expanded via microSD cards.
Other features include Bluetooth 2.0 support, the Opera web browser, a large phone book, an alarm, a calendar, a notepad, a to-do list, a calculator, a number of voice commands, a voice recorder, a speakerphone, and email support.
Pros
-Lots of high end features for a "lower end" Nokia phone
-Attractive design
-Decent battery life
Cons
-No 3G support
Overall
If you can get by without the 3G support that you find in most phones these days, the Nokia 3600-Slide is a fantastic device. It combines Nokia quality with high-end features with a great looking design, making it one of the best deals on the market today. While the lack of 3G support may be enough to steer some away from this device, think long and hard about how many websites you really visit with your phone before you make a decision.
